Ironside Putting Together Strong Season in AJHL

January 20, 2022

Carson Ironside had his best game of the season last night, stopping 37 of 38 shots to lead the Whitecourt Wolverines to a 2-1 victory. The win (and an impressive one where his team was outshot 38-20) was his 13th of the season, improving his record to 13-5-3 on the year. He also boasts a .918 save percentage and a 2.85 goals against average.

The 18 year old is in his first full season in the AJHL. He was in fact with Whitecourt last year, but due to COVID the season was an abbreviated one. In the small sample he was impressive in his debut in the league, posting a .921 save percentage over four games.

Ironside has grabbed the starter's net in 2022 as the Wolverines enter the playoff push of the regular season, and although it's the AJHL now, winning games and earning opportunities is nothing new for the 5'7" goalie. He had an extremely accomplished minor hockey career, growing through the ranks of the St. Albert Raiders organization. In 2019-20 he was 12-0-1 / .932 / 1.77 for the 18U AAA Raiders before the pandemic ended the season prematurely.

This came on the heels of backstopping the 16U AAA St. Albert Flyers to a Provincial Championship, which was sweet redemption after falling just short in the championship game the year prior for the 15U AAA Sabres.

Whitecourt currently sits in fifth place out of eight teams in the North Division, as Ironside and the Wolverines look to make a push to make the playoffs.
